This past weekend, my inbox was hounded with question after question regarding spring accessories--and I'm hardly complaining . . . they were all warranted due to the sudden above-60 weather in the District. So in the spirit of addressing the topic at hand, I find it only right that for today's Style Question I simply continue on JMatthew's question from two weeks ago. And it went something like this:
"Ive been trying to put off updating my wardrobe for as long as possible. I'm just one of those guys who enjoys the colder seasons as opposed to the warmer ones--I'm from Minnesota. But since February is coming to an end and the month of March is where spring really gets it's start, I think it's time that I finally accept that spring is on its way. Can I do that in a way that isn't so drastic and doesn't require buying an entirely new set of clothes?
Back then, I brought attention to Pierrepont Hicks' newest collection of neck gear: a fun spirited and light range of dual sided bow ties and pattern clashing neck ties. Because really . . . to update your wardrobe to spring 2010, all that is needed is an update in your accessories to accompany those core pieces that resonate to any year. This time around I'm extending those accessories to footwear and headgear. And to keep them DC appropriate, lets try New Wave Boat Shoes and refreshing straw fedoras.

Keeping in sync with style icon JFK, this spring boat shoes are just are relevant as they were last year. This time around, however, they've been updated for a fresher look; and everyone from Sperry to Band of Outsiders have participated. With new silhouettes and brighter splashes of color, boat shoes have just become that much more interesting. Try these lightweight ones from Coach or go for a more athletic and showstopping pair with Gucci.
$198, available at Coach stores nationwide; $455, available at select Gucci stores.

Update your headgear to suit the season as well, and that starts with ditching the felt fedoras for something more seasonably appropriate. Try straw! I adore this Flax Panama that features double brim. Or go the affordable route with a more traditional number--very Little House on the Prairie.
$180, available at www.makinshats.com; $7.95, available at select H&M stores.

I love that Makins hat. Its classic but deep, which makes it different. I also like the Coach boat shoes.

I like that straw hats are a trend. Ive always thought of them as very anti-urban. But seeing as how fashion is really urban, I guess we will see loads of them in DC, New York, and LA.

This is such an amazing guide for spring. Those coach boat shoes would pair well with lots of items that I already have like khakis and shorts. And the straw hats seem so spring. Your doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work.
