A big debate around the office is whether or not it is okay to wear a blue blazer with gold buttons. I recently had my gold buttons removed on the blazer to make it looks a little more modern. What is your opinion? Does it defile my jacket?
You most certainly did not defile your jacket, you simply made it into a suit jacket. DC is filled with gold-button clad navy blazers, and it has become synonymous with interns. As a child, I loved gold and brass buttons and even sported a traditional Ralph Lauren crest on my blazer when I was 12. But once I gave up aspirations of being a Navy commander, and grew up, I also gave up on the metal buttons. In my opinion, a grown man should opt for more subtlety details. More importantly, if you happen to work in DC you'll almost certainly be mistaken for an intern. You mind as well strap on a red ID around your neck. In other words, stay away from metal buttons, it's the grown-up thing to do!

I agree, but you sure chose a fine picture to illustrate. The guy in the picture looks great in his blazer with metal buttons. Just saying.

I like double breasted and brass buttons but I think the gold ones look ridiculous. They look fake and too often do they start to change colors, making your blazer simply look cheap. Plastic buttons don't do that.

Agree 100%. Just think they look too old fashioned as well.

@ Brandon...great response, I totally agree with you man.

Interns wear blazers with metal buttons. Not paid staff. If you want to be carded when you go to happy hour than wear a blazer with gold buttons.

I could never bare myself to purchase a blazer with gold buttons. Ive just never seen any that looked decent.

I dont see anything wrong with wearing a blazer with metal buttons. If for any reason, it's an American classic. Like a flag lapel pin, you sort of get a fashion waived when wearing one simply because it's patriotic.

Tommy Hilfiger makes a great suit jacket with gold buttons. And I'm sure Ralph Lauren has ventured into this territory before. LegAss is right, it's an AMerican classic. Nothing it wrong with the look, if done right.

The look is just so showy and pretentious. If done in a sleek way and very tailored and fitted, then I think it could look good. Otherwise, it just looks horrible. That's just my opinion though.

When I think of Capitol Hill and DC, the image of navy blazers and gold buttons comes to mind. Without doubt, it's a American classic. But all American classics just aren't right.

You mind as well stamp INTERN on your forehead. And if you dont live in DC, I see no other reason to even consider the idea of a blazer with metal buttons.

Gold buttons are going to be the end of the world as we know it. Personally, I think it's a conspiracy theory.

Until today, I thought the look was horrible. But now, I'm rethinking my opinion. For one, the photo that you chose makes it look good. For two, some of the previous comments make me think that you could definitely wear one in a stylish way.
